Privacy Policy
AppCrunchStudio ("we," "our," or "us") operates the BookLibrary mobile application for Android (with future planned support for iOS). We are deeply committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains our practices regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of information when you use our application.
Core Privacy Principles
Our philosophy is simple: Your data belongs to you.
- Privacy First — We build with your privacy as our top priority.
- No Ads — The app is entirely ad-free.
- No Tracking — We do not track your behavior, usage patterns, or location.
- No Sale of Data — We never sell, rent, or monetize your personal information.
- Local Storage — All your data remains securely on your own device unless you choose to use our optional cloud backup feature.
Information Collection and Use
No Account Required
You do not need to create an account, log in, or provide any personal information to use BookLibrary.
What We Do NOT Collect
We do not collect, harvest, or have access to any personal data, including but not limited to:
- Names or personal phone numbers
- Your device's contacts list or address book
- Unique device identifiers or Advertising IDs
- Analytics, crash reporting, or usage tracking data
- Biometric or payment information
Information You Store Locally
Any data you input into the app is stored directly on your device's local storage. This includes:
- Book details (titles, authors, publishers, descriptions)
- Reading progress, notes, status, and custom bookshelves
- Lending history (including names and contact numbers of borrowers you manually input)
- Custom book cover images
Note: AppCrunchStudio cannot access, view, or modify any of this locally stored information.
Optional Google Drive Backup
BookLibrary provides an optional backup and restore feature using your personal Google Drive account. If you choose to enable this feature, the following privacy rules apply:
- Authentication Only — We do not collect, store, or sell personal information on our own servers. If you choose to use the optional Google Drive Backup feature, your Google account's basic profile information (such as your email address) is accessed solely to authenticate your account and enable backup and restore functionality.
- Scoped Access — BookLibrary requests limited access to your Google Drive. The app cannot browse, view, or modify any other files in your personal storage. It is only permitted to access, read, and write the specific backup files it creates.
- Data Storage — Your library backups are compressed into ZIP files and stored inside a visible folder named BookLibraryBackups within your own Google Drive. AppCrunchStudio has no server infrastructure to host these files; they remain entirely under your control within your personal Google cloud environment.
- Control — You can disconnect your Google Drive account from the app and delete your backup files at any time directly through Google Drive or your Google account security settings.
Device Permissions & Actions
To provide specific features, BookLibrary requests access to certain device capabilities or utilizes system actions. These are used strictly for the following purposes:
- Camera — Used solely to scan ISBN barcodes to quickly look up book information. Camera images are processed in real-time on your device and are never uploaded or stored.
- Photos / Media / Storage — This optional permission is only used if you choose to upload a custom cover image for a book from your gallery. These images remain strictly on your device.
-
Phone & Third-Party App Communication (WhatsApp / Phone App) —
When recording lending history, you may manually type in a contact number. BookLibrary
provides buttons to quickly call that borrower or open a WhatsApp chat with them.
This action uses standard system links (
tel:and WhatsApp integration protocol) to pass the number directly to your device's native phone application or the official WhatsApp application.
We do not request permission to read your device's contact book, and the phone numbers you type are never sent to our servers.
Internet Access and Third-Party Services
BookLibrary functions primarily offline. Internet access is requested only when you choose to look up book metadata using public online book databases, or when you trigger a manual Google Drive backup/restore operation.
When you scan a barcode or search for a book, the app sends the search query (ISBN, title, or author) to public book metadata services to retrieve details such as title, author, publisher, cover image, and description.
Important details regarding these requests:
- Only the specific search query is sent to these services.
- No personal data, device identifiers, or user information is attached to these requests.
- These external services operate under their own independent privacy policies. We encourage you to review them to understand how they handle search queries.
Children's Privacy
BookLibrary does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from anyone under the age of 13. Since we do not collect any personal data from any user, no such data is retained or shared.
Data Security
Because your data is stored locally on your device (and optionally within your private Google Drive), its security depends heavily on your own security settings (such as device encryption, passcodes, and Google account two-factor authentication). While no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, AppCrunchStudio follows industry best practices to ensure the app itself operates safely and securely.
Your Rights (Data Control)
Because we do not store your data on external servers, you have total control over your information. You can:
- Edit or delete any book record, borrower contact number, note, or history directly within the app at any time.
- Completely erase all data associated with the app by clearing the app's cache/data in your Android system settings or by uninstalling the application.
- Delete the BookLibraryBackups folder from your Google Drive to permanently remove your cloud backups.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with a revised "Last Updated" date. We advise you to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any updates.
